Permian Basin
XTO Energy is a major operator in the Permian Basin.
Overview
The Permian Basin is a 90,000-square-mile mineral reservoir in West Texas and southeast New Mexico that was discovered in the early 1920s. Today, there are more drilling rigs in the Permian Basin than anywhere else in the world, and production in the Permian currently accounts for about one-fourth of the total oil output of the United States.
Methane: Stopped in its tracks
XTO has a long track record in its commitment to reduce methane emissions from oil and natural gas operations. The methane-reduction measures below are in place at XTO's new facilities in the Permian Basin. By implementing these emission-cutting designs and technologies, XTO is doing its part to produce oil and natural gas in the most environmentally responsible and efficient manner.
